Back on the Mainland

We've been back in the mainland US since Monday morning! After a long night of traveling, we arrived safely at my Mom's house in San Jose. Boy does it feel good to be back in the CONUS. You don't realize how many little things you've missed until you get back.

The weather the last few days has been spectacular. Dry and cool...unseasonably cool for central California. However, a welcomed change from the tropics. I'm sure this winter in New Hampshire I'll be longing for the hot humid days of Guam.

We're all adjusting to the time change well. Sophia is doing great. A little fussy here and there, but all things considered, she is being a little angel. Grandma's house is not baby-proof and Sophia's been getting into everything if not watched closely. Here is a shot of here caught red handed!

We'll be here in San Jose until this Sunday morning, then, it's off to New Hampshire! 

Tropical Storm 02W

This Tropical Storm started to form over the weekend. It went South of Guam as it gained strength. We've been lucky, its coming up on four years without a named storm hitting the Island.

Windy Weather

It's been very windy this weekend, especially today! There was a small craft advisory in effect. I don't think too many folks made it out fishing.

Looks like Tropical Depression 26W will be passing South of Guam later in the week. Forecast models show it passing well South of Guam. However, it will still stir up the seas as it goes by. This may put a damper on fishing over the long Thanksgiving weekend. Oh well! Good thing I have a cute little baby at home to chill out with!

A TROPICAL DISTURBANCE CURRENTLY LOCATED ABOUT 1000 MILES 
EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE MARIANAS NEAR 10N160E IS STEADILY DEVELOPING 
AND MAY INTENSIFY INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION WITHIN THE NEXT 24 TO 
36 HOURS. MAXIMUM WINDS NEAR THE CENTER...BASED ON SATELLITE 
DATA...ARE ESTIMATED TO BE 15 TO 20 MPH. 

WEATHER FORECAST MODEL GUIDANCE INDICATES THIS SYSTEM WILL MOVE 
WEST-NORTHWEST OVER THE NEXT 2-3 DAYS TOWARD THE SOUTHERN MARIANAS. 
SINCE OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER ARE THE PEAK MONTHS FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE 
ACTIVITY IN MICRONESIA...RESIDENTS OF THE MARIANAS ARE ADVISED TO 
CLOSELY MONITOR ITS DEVELOPMENT OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. WEAK 
DISTURBANCES CAN QUICKLY INTENSIFY DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR IN THIS 
PART OF THE WESTERN PACIFIC CALLED TYPHOON ALLEY.

BASED ON FORECAST INFORMATION FROM THE JOINT TYPHOON WARNING CENTER.

Super Typhoon Choi-Wan

Knock on wood...looks like we dodged another one! Now a Super Typhoon, it is amazing to see how fast this storm developed and intensified from a tropical disturbance about 600 miles east of Guam, to a Super Typhoon that just missed Saipan. Take a look at the colorized infrared, you can clearly see the eye of this very powerful storm.

Not as far North as anticipated, looks like we might get some decent TS force winds tomorrow evening.

Tropical Storm Warning

Guam is currently under a tropical storm warning for the next 48 hours. Looks like this one will pass North of us. We might get some tropical storm strength winds tomorrow, but it looks like it will be pretty mild.

We missed another one!

Check it out, another tropical storm just formed to the SouthWest of Guam. These things keep popping up right by the island. I guess we're pretty lucky, they could be forming a few hundred miles to the east, which would be bad for us. We are having a very rainy, rainy season! It has rained almost every day for the last week or so. Lots of rain today. My relatively new umbrella bit the dust today while at work; a single gust of wind just about ripped half of the top right off!
