I thought all was good with my Xbox 360 repair order...initially. But then nothing ever happened. No email, no box in the mail, no nothing! So I called Xbox support and lucked out and got a US call center, and after explaining my story to the first telephone operator, I was put on hold for 35 minutes to talk to a supervisor...It never happened. I got tired of waiting so I hung up and called back. This time, I got a call center in India, and the guy could barely understand me. He just kept telling me that I called at a bad time. So I hung up and called back again. Third time, I got a call center in Eastern Europe and at least this guy could communicate effectively in English. After going round and round with him about the fact that I live in a US territory where there are 5 US retailers that sell Xbox 360s, and how it is pathetic that Microsoft will not do a warranty exchange or repair because were are not in an area that is considered one of their "markets," they finally agreed to let me ship my Xbox 360 at my expense to their warranty repair center in Texas and then they would repair it and ship it back at no charge. So much for the no cost warranty exchange program. This is a big change from a year ago, where you were screwed if your Xbox crapped out here in Guam. So I'm going to package the Xbox up and mail it out on Monday. Its been taking on average 2-3 months for people to get their Xbox either repaired or exchanged. So I bought another one so that the boys and I have something to play in the mean time. I figure, eventually, when we get the repaired on back, the boys can play on that one and I will play on the new one. At least for now we are back online and having fun on the rainy days here in Guam. I really like the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.
Still, It makes me sick that Microsoft produced and sold millions of these defective consoles worldwide, including here in Guam, and then isn't trying to make good on every one of them that has the three red lights problem. They try to matter of fact explain to you how unfortunately the warranty exchange program is not available in the US territory of Guam. Shame on Microsoft! This is especially egregious, since there are thousands of service members stationed here in Guam that have been affected by this problem. I know of at least three other families that have dead Xbox 360s sitting in a closet. Way to support the military Microsoft!
